on prayer

“In prayer a reversal occurs:
we do not talk about God and the world
but begin to see ourselves and the world in God.
We begin to see human life and the world
from the divine perspective,
from a broader and more inclusive point of view
than we are otherwise capable of holding.
We begin to recognize who we are in the scheme of things
from the perspective of the Creator and Redeemer of everything that is.
We are no longer the center (a definition of sin);
we know God is the Center (a definition of salvation).”

-Sallie McFague
